Humans could live 150 years in the Metaverse if they just upload their brains to the web
Eternal life could be within our grasp thanks to new digital technologies - as long as you're happy to leave your physical body permanently and become a living app, claims one Russian billionaire

For centuries humans have looked for the elixir of life: a way to stave off the effects of aging or even extend lifespan by decades.
Thanks to new AI and metaverse technologies, we might finally be getting closer. That's at least the view of one Russian billionaire, Dmitry Itskov, who believes people will one day be able to live forever by
Itskov, who made his fortune with a Moscow-based media company, is part of the '2045 Initiative' which aims to "eliminate aging and even death" and to overcome the limits of the human body.
The project argues that artificial bodies will appear by 2045 which will allow people to move out of their old bodies and into new ones with the help of the Internet.
In the 2045 Initiative's manifesto, Itskov says: “People will make independent decisions about the extension of their lives and the possibilities for personal development in a new body after the resources of the biological body have been exhausted.”
The concept, called mind-uploading, would see people make digital copies of their minds that could live freely in cyberspace, unrestricted by biology.
Companies like Elon Musk's Neuralink are researching brain-computer interfaces which could form the basis of future whole-brain uploading.
Itskov is not the only one who thinks advanced metaverse technologies hold the key to long life.
Self-described futurist Tom Cheesewright told the Daily Star that tech could one day let us "input our consciousness" into AI and VR robots, but that we're still some way off from achieving this.
He said: "Ultimately I think it is possible.
"You'd have to download the software of your whole body and recreate that in a way the brain feels is plausible. Replicating that inside a machine is an enormously complex proposition we're a very long way from achieving."
We are only 20 - 30 years away from immortality. Once we have the ability to download our brains and DNA we will be able to switch bodies.
You could upload your brain to the metaverse and live for over 150 years, an expert has claimed. Is this life for you?
