President Donald Trump has announced that Karoline Leavitt, the spokesperson for his 2024 campaign, will become the White House press secretary when he takes office in January. At just 27 years old, Leavitt will make history as the youngest person to hold the position.
In a statement released on Friday, President Trump praised Leavitt for her performance during his campaign.
“Karoline Leavitt did a phenomenal job as the National Press Secretary on my Historic Campaign,” he said. “She is smart, tough, and has proven to be a highly effective communicator. I have the utmost confidence she will excel at the podium and help deliver our message to the American People as we, Make America Great Again.”
Leavitt served as assistant press secretary in the first Trump administration under Kayleigh McEnany, who is now a prominent host on Fox News.
In her announcement on social media, Leavitt expressed gratitude to President Trump, stating, “Thank you, President Trump, for believing in me. I am humbled and honored. Let’s MAGA!”
With Leavitt’s appointment, she will become the youngest individual to serve in the top press role since Ron Ziegler, who was 29 when selected during Richard Nixon’s administration in the 1970s.
Before joining President Trump’s 2024 campaign, Leavitt worked as a senior aide to Rep. Elise Stefanik (R-NY), whom President Trump recently nominated to serve as ambassador to the United Nations.
Leavitt, a New Hampshire native, is seen as a staunch advocate for President Trump who is quick on her feet and delivers aggressive defenses of the Republican in television interviews.
She worked as a spokesperson for MAGA Inc., a super PAC supporting President Trump, before joining his 2024 campaign.
In 2022, she ran for Congress in New Hampshire, winning a 10-way Republican primary before losing to incumbent Democratic Rep. Chris Pappas.
