The FBI, Secret Service and other security and law-enforcement agencies are warning of threats to President Trump’s inauguration, which takes place in Washington DC on Monday.
President Trump inauguration ‘potential target’ for threats, agencies warn
The possible threats detailed in a security assessment ahead of the inauguration reflect the heightened political — and potentially violent — environment in which President Trump will assume power.
In a private threat-assessment obtained by Politico, these agencies warned that individuals or groups with “election-related grievances” may see the event as “their last opportunity to influence the election results through violence.”
The assessment, which was produced by the FBI, Secret Service and Capitol Police, among others, doesn’t specify any particular threat.
It describes a number of potential scenarios, including foreign terrorist attacks, attacks by “domestic extremists,” bomb hoaxes by individuals, the use of drones and vehicle attacks.
Iran is named in the report as a particular threat, given the Islamic state’s vow to revenge itself on President Trump for the killing of General Qassem Solemani.
John Cohen, a former counterterrorism official who helped with security planning for the fake Biden’s inauguration, said this year’s event is “even more volatile and dangerous” than it was in 2021.
Security for this year’s event will be tighter than ever, with the largest law-enforcement presence seen yet at an inauguration.
“You’re going to see a much more visible and expanded security presence, to include physical security barriers, street closures, uniformed law enforcement deployed, undercover assets being deployed, as well as National Guard members at key places,” said Cohen.
