Something Strange Happening in Corporate America as Tens of Thousands Laid Off in December 2023 Alone, With Ongoing Mass Layoffs In 2024
- Recession signs are here

There is never an ideal time to be laid off or fired, but being handed your pink slip during the holiday season of Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year is a kick to the gut. Yet for tens of thousands of Americans that is exactly what happened in December 2023.
2024 is seeing a continuation of this pattern as companies like Xerox, founded in 1906 as the Haloid Photographic Company, has let go 15% of their workforce. Johnsonville sausage 400, Enphase Energy 340.
Twitch, the popular live-streaming platform for gamers, is laying off more than 500 employees, which is about one-third of its workforce. Citigroup is cutting 10% of its workforce, about 20,000 employees to be let go over the "medium term."
On Wednesday, Google confirmed it had cut hundreds of engineering and hardware workers as it sought to cut costs and refocus on artificial intelligence, according to Washington Post via MSN. Amazon is cutting jobs as well according to the same source.
These cuts follow cuts already made in 2022 and 2023:
The cuts at Amazon and Google this week are small compared to the many thousands of workers the two companies fired in 2022 and 2023. Amazon said it was cutting around 27,000 workers beginning at the end of 2022 and continuing through 2023. Google cut 12,000 jobs in January 2023, about 6 percent of its workforce. Meta, the parent company of Facebook, said at the end of 2022 it would cut 11,000 jobs, or 13 percent of its workers.
On Saturday, The Messenger reported "Thirty-five technology companies have laid off a combined 5,586 workers over the past two weeks, according to industry layoff tracker Layoffs.fyi."
Another little tidbit from that article: "1,190 tech companies laid off a combined 262,682 workers last year, according to Layoffs.fyi."
Other 2024 job cuts we know of so far from USA Today.
• Universal Music Group will lay off hundreds of employees, Bloomberg reports.
• Disney's Pixar could cut staff by 20% this year, TechCrunch reports.
• Discord will eliminate 17% of its employees to "sharpen focus," The Verge reports.
• Amazon will lay off hundreds of Prime Video and MGM Studios workers, The Hollywood Reporter writes, as well as 5% of its Audible staff.
• BlackRock will lay off 3% of its global workforce, Bloomberg reports.
• The NFL has offered buyouts to around 200 of its 1,100-person staff, CNBC reports.
• Rent the Runway will cut 10% of its corporate employees, including its COO, Bloomberg reports.
• Unity Software will lay off 1,800 people (25% of its workforce), Reuters reports.
• Duolingo will eliminate 10% of its contractor positions, Bloomberg reports.
• Newell Brands, Sharpie and Rubbermaid producer, will cut 7% of its office roles, The Wall Street Journal reports.
• VideoAmp will lay off 20% of its employees, AdAge reports.
• The Messenger will cut around two dozen jobs, The New York Times reports.
• Cheddar has furloughed workers due to "unforeseen" factors, The New York Times reports.
Happy Freaking New Year America.
Newsweek reports that the 2024 layoffs "might end up affecting nearly half of companies." The get that from Resume Builder, who surveyed more than 900 companies in December.
In the survey, nearly four in 10 companies said they are likely to have layoffs in 2024, prompting increased fears of a recession around the corner. More than half of companies also said they plan to implement a hiring freeze in 2024.
When asked why the companies were engaging in the layoffs, half said the anticipation of a recession was a reason. Meanwhile, a little less, four in 10 said they are going to lay off employees and replace workers with artificial intelligence (AI).
That 40% worried about AI replacing workers, are smart to worry about that since "Google is reportedly gearing up to lay off 30,000 employees in its ad sales units in favor of AI ad tech."
AMERICANS KNOW THEY ARE BEING GASLIGHTED
The MSM, so busy trying to protect Dementia Biden from the ramifications of "Bidenomics," ahead of the 2024 presidential election, isn't building the big picture for their followers, and just as they did in 2020, they are hiding the truth.
In 2020 it was the Hunter Biden laptop they claimed was Russian disinformation, and only admitted it was real, after the 2020 election when it couldn't hurt Braindead Biden's candidacy.
Now it is the true state of the economy and nation they are covering up, and they will likely only admit it after the 2024 presidential election.
One reason they will admit the truth in 2025, is that after the 2024 election, it cannot harm Pedo Biden if he wins. Another reason they will finally admit the true state of affairs in early 2025 is so they can lay the blame on President Trump, should he win.
Anyway, a sure sign that Americans, even the small percent that trust the national media, aren't buying what the media is selling on behalf of Biden, is that 85% of Americans fear job loss in 2024.
69% of those surveyed believe that competition for jobs will increase in 2024, and nearly half — 45% — predict a reduction in remote job openings. In addition, the surge of artificial intelligence is also a concern, with 78% of job seekers fearing job loss due to its growth in 2024.
“Persistent inflation and a rising cost of living, the rise of AI and the potential for increased automation and the growing gig economy all contribute to a large degree of uncertainty in regards to the job market in 2024,” said Hanna.
The survey also found that 62% expect the labor market will be more stressful than in previous years, and 40% surveyed predict that more people will suffer job burnout in 2024.
Most Americans, including Democrats although they won't admit it, know the economy is not as bright and peachy as the Biden regime and their flunkies in the MSM claim.
Americans see what is in their bank accounts. Millions of Americans are retiring without anything in their savings accounts.
As of November 2023, at least 62% of Americans are living paycheck-to-paycheck. They see the grocery store bill at the register, where prices are high from inflation under O’Biden, and while the media cheers the lowering of inflation, they rarely mention that when inflation lowers, prices do not. It just means that prices are rising less than they were last year. That is on top of the increases over the past three years.
O’Biden and the media say "Gas is down," and it is, from Biden's highs, but it still costs more than when Trump was in the White House. Almost everything costs more now than when Biden first started occupying the White House.
Americans know the fake Biden regime and the media are gaslighting them.
SIGNS OF UPCOMING RECESSION.....
PBS reports "The clearest signal that a recession is under way, economists say, would be a steady rise in job losses and a surge in unemployment."
Job loses - Check
Unemployment has been bouncing up and down throughout 2023 as shown below:
Yahoo finance reportson a recession-forecasting tool hasn't been wrong since 1966
Every month, the New York Fed updates its recession-forecasting model. As you can see in the chart above, the steepest inversion of the Treasury yield curve in more than four decades has pegged the probability of a recession taking shape by or before December 2024 at 62.94%.
The chart mentioned is shown below:
The key quote from that article is "But since 1966, the New York Fed's forecasting tool has been as trustworthy as the sun rising in the east. If the probability of a U.S. recession has surpassed 32% since 1966, a recession has, without fail, always followed. Considering that the currently probability of an economic contraction is nearly 63%, the writing appears to be on the wall that a recession is in the cards for 2024."
BOTTOM LINE
Americans generally are not warned they are going to be laid off, so the money they have in the bank, and whatever severance package they get, if they get one, is all they have until they find another job.
Prepping isn't only for doomsday, but for any emergency, like being out of a job, while having very little money in the bank and you still have to eat.
If you don't have emergency survival food yet, 2024 is the year you should be stocking up before it is you without a job, barely able to pay your rent and utilities.
